Cutting, copying and pasting keyframes
You can also cut, copy and paste keyframe(s), complete with the values and timings they hold:
- To cut keyframes, first select them (see Selecting keyframes). Then choose Edit > Cut; the keyframe(s) are removed from the XSheet, and placed on the pasteboard ready for pasting. Any inbetweens before and after the cut keyframe(s) are then recalculated.
- To copy keyframe(s), first select them (see Selecting keyframes). Then choose Edit > Copy; the keyframe(s) are copied onto the pasteboard ready for pasting.
- To paste the keyframe(s) you have copied or pasted into the XSheet, first click on the cell where you wish to place the first of the keyframes.
- Then choose Edit > Paste; the keyframe(s) are copied from the pasteboard into the cell, replacing the frames already in the XSheet. Any inbetweens before and after the pasted keyframe(s) are then recalculated.
- The keyframes remain on the pasteboard, so you can paste them again.
There are some restrictions on pasting keyframes:
- You can cut, copy and paste keyframes from one column to another column, but both columns must hold the same type of keyframe. Director warns you if you try to paste keyframes into a column that holds a different type of keyframe:

- You cannot cut, copy and paste keyframes from multiple columns to a different set of columns. Although you can cut or copy the keyframes, when you paste them they will always be pasted back into the columns from which they came, even if you selected a different column when choosing where to paste them.
- You cannot paste your keyframe(s) over the top of another keyframe; there must be a big enough gap between keyframes where you're pasting to hold all the keyframes on the pasteboard. For example:

- Pasting the keyframes above on the left into the column on the right is OK; the gap of four frames is enough to hold them:

- However, in the example below the gap is no longer large enough:

- An alert panel asks if you wish to move the keyframes already present to make room for the ones you are trying to paste:

- Click on No to cancel the paste; or click on Yes to move the keyframes and paste the new ones in, thus:
